Vestas begins community consultation on Abercrombie Wind Farm
The Vestas team held its first community drop-in session for Abercrombie Wind Farm on 26 July 2024.
We set up outside the IGA on Lachlan Street to introduce the Project to the local community and gather feedback.
Most people who stopped by were locals, and many had not heard about the Project. People were interested in learning where the wind farm will be located, where wind turbines may be, the Project timeline, development process and potential work opportunities.
We had fact sheets available for people to take home and share with family and friends, and a project map to show the proposed Project location.
Caps, stubby holders, stress balls, umbrellas, coffee mugs, bags and free coffee were also popular!
Feedback from landowners and the community about the Project will help the Abercrombie team understand regional and site-specific concerns that advise the Project design.
The planning process
Vestas is currently preparing a scoping report, which details the results of our early engagement and preliminary studies. The scoping report will be lodged with the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI), which will instruct Vestas about what the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) for the Project must include.
We will commence the EIS in late 2024, and it can take around two years to complete. Once finalised, the EIS will be lodged with DPHI, which will place the EIS on public exhibition for a minimum 28 days. During this time, it is important for all community members, stakeholders and government agencies to make a submission if they oppose or support the Project.
More opportunities to share information
Vestas will host more community engagement opportunities as the Project progresses. We will advertise these in the Hay Riverine Grazier and through Hay Shire Council’s Facebook page, as well as on the Abercrombie Wind Farm website.
If you can’t make it to one of our events, please complete our survey about the Wind Farm through our community page.
